Sakrand, Sindh:Jan. 03. The 344th birth anniversary of renowned Sindhi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was celebrated with great fervor at a cultural forum held in his honor. Bhittai, widely regarded as the greatest poet of the Sindhi language, is remembered for his profound spiritual and poetic contributions that transcend time and cultures.

Speakers at the event, including Junior J.J. Tahira and Yasmine Muhammad Ali Shah, highlighted Bhittai’s unique portrayal of women in his poetry, emphasizing their crucial role in shaping a healthy and enlightened society. Bhittai’s works are notable for their emphasis on women’s empowerment and their spiritual and social significance.¹

Sanah Sadique Lakhho, curator of the Sindh Cultural Forum, praised Bhittai as a spiritual and intellectual guide who continues to inspire generations. “His birth is a joyous occasion for the people of Sindh, particularly women, and we strive to celebrate his legacy every year,” she said.

Bhittai’s poetry, compiled in the iconic “Shah Jo Risalo,” remains a testament to his spiritual depth and literary genius. His works have been translated into various languages, including Urdu and English, cementing his status as a global literary icon.
