JUI Threatens Province-Wide Protests Over Alleged Rigging in PB-45 By-Election
Quetta, Jan. 6: Molana Abdul Wasey, provincial chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), has alleged that the recent re-polling in constituency PB-45 was marred by rigging, resulting in the defeat of his party’s candidate. Wasey claimed that the government’s candidate was declared winner at gunpoint.
The JUI leader announced plans to stage province-wide protests, starting with a wheel-jam strike on January 8. Further protests are scheduled to take place in Chaman on January 20 and in the Baloch Belt from February 9 to 17.
Wasey warned that if his party’s mandate is not restored, he will quit politics. He added that the central party will consult with leaders across Pakistan to devise a strategy to counter the alleged rigging in the elections.
