Sports Gala inaugurated at Sir Syed University

KARACHI, January 8– The Sports Department of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology inaugurated the grand SSUET Inter-departmental Sports Gala that included 13 sports games this year. Four houses including Quaid e Azam House, Allama Iqbal House, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan House, and Liaquat Ali Khan House were formed with eight teams who would participate in the sports gala. Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony was the distinguished cricketer Jalaluddin. The event was attended by the Guest of Honour, President Karachi Hockey Association, Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, Convenor AIT, Engr. Muhammad Arshad Khan, Convenor Sports Qazi Nasar Abbas, Director Finance Munaf Advani, Principal AIT, Shahid Jamil including President Pakistan Hockey Federation, Syed Haider Hussain, Chairman Karachi Hockey Association, Gulfaraz Ahmed Khan, Secretary Sindh Tug of War Association, Javed Iqbal Baig and others.

Addressing the ceremony, Chief Guest, renowned cricketer Jalaluddin said that sports activities enhance creative potential and productive capacity of the youth. The promotion and development of sports should be our priority because sports pave the way for a healthy nation. If we want to see true professionals in sports, we need to start exploring talent at the grassroots level.

Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Chancellor SSUET, Jawaid Anwar, said that Sports Gala is a repercussion of coexistence, tolerance and brotherhood. Students from different cults and creed would take part in the grand competition and play together in the matches with true sportsman spirit that is ultimately transformed into national integrity.

Chancellor Jawaid Anwar appreciated the role of Media in boosting the image of Sir Syed University and giving extensive coverage to the SSUET events in their publications and channels.

Vice Chancellor SSUET, Dr. Munawar Hussain said that Sports Gala brings together a diverse array of talents and Sir Syed University provides ample opportunities for students to participate in co-curricular activities to enhance their talent and win competitions. Sports build character, teaching lessons about resilience, discipline, and humility.

Earlier, presenting a welcome note, Registrar SSUET, Cdre. (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali SI (M) said that the sports events showcase the collective talent of the youth rather than recognizing winners. Games give you confidence, strength and enhance physical productivity. It teaches you how to work in harmony with other people to work as a consolidated unit.

Convenor Sports,  Qazi Nasar Abbas said that the event is being held to recognize the accomplishments of the students in different games. Sports Gala encourages fair play and camaraderie among participants. It strengthens relationships among participants and promotes pride in local sports.

Presenting vote of thanks, Director Sports (Acting) SSUET, Engr. Fayyaz Ali said that the Sports Gala was held to honor the spirit of unity, perseverance, and passion that defines our university community.
