The construction of additional canals on the Indus poses an existential threat to the Sindhi nation
Karachi: Leaders from the Sindhi Association of North America, Pakistan People’s Party Sindh, Awami Tahreek, Sindhiyani Tahreek, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Sindh United Party, Awami Jamhori Party, Jeay Sindh, Awami Workers Party, along with water experts and technocrats and civil society participated in the Sana Sindh Water Conference held at the Pakistan Arts Council in Karachi.
This technical and socio-political session, titled “Let the River Flow,” featured speeches by Dr. Maqbool Halepoto, Walid Shaikh Nisar Khuhro, Advocate Wasand Thari, Umrah Samo, Dr. Qadir Magsi, Jagdesh Ahuja, Niaz Kalani, Zulfiqar Junior, Bakhshal Thalo, Ibrar Qazi, Nasir Memon, Mahmood Nawaz, Ahsan Laghari, Syed Lal Shah, Shabina Faraz, and others.
The collective stance emphasized that the construction of additional canals on the Indus River is an existential threat to the Sindhi nation. They reiterated that the Indus is not merely a river but the lifeline and creator of one of the world’s oldest civilizations.
