Illegal Inter-City Bus Terminals Continue to Operate with Impunity in Karachi

Karachi, Jan. 19: Despite assurances from the SSP Traffic Central, illegal inter-city bus terminals in Karachi’s Al-Karam Square continue to operate unchecked. The local community had pinned their hopes on the new SSP to take action against these terminals, but it appears that officials have turned a blind eye to the issue.

Sources reveal that the AR and SO of the Liaquatabad Traffic Section seem to be in cahoots with the terminal owners, either ignoring their existence or accepting hefty bribes to maintain silence. It has been alleged that the AR has made a deal with the terminal owners, promising them immunity from action in exchange for a payment of Rs. 500 per vehicle.

The terminal owners have been assured that even if complaints are filed, no action will be taken against them. Instead, the authorities will target a few random vehicles passing through the area, issuing them challans to appease their superiors. The AR’s alleged collusion with the terminal owners has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the officer’s motives.
