SMBBMU organizes one-day symposium on eye diseases

LARKANA: A one-day awareness symposium on “eye diseases and eye transplantation in children” was organized by the Department of Ophthalmology under the management of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) Larkana, at Chandka MEDICAL College Larkana, which was presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Nusrat Shah. Eye specialists from all over the country participated in the symposium. In his presidential speech at the symposium, the Vice Chancellor said that we are soon signing an agreement with the Vision for Education Foundation, with which eye specialists will come here and train doctors. Our eye specialists or young doctors will be financially supported by the university to study anywhere in the world and we are also starting eye transplantation soon. He added that our people are reluctant to donate their organs, which requires awareness. He added that I have made a will that my Finally, my organs that can be donated should be donated and my statement should be kept on record. Professor Khalid Iqbal Talpur said that it is difficult to identify eye diseases in children. Parents should immediately consult doctors if their children change their behavior. He added that eye diseases have also increased due to the increased use of mobile phones and computers among children. Professor Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, presenting his research on corneal diseases, said that the eye is a great blessing given by God and is a great miracle in itself, and now our doctors are skilled in everything from corneal surgery to transplantation. Eye transplant expert Professor Shahzad Memon said that keratoplasty or eye transplantation is now possible in Sindh and in some cases, when the cornea turns white, cosmetic transplantation is also possible. A video of corneal transplantation was also shown in the symposium. In his address, Ranjani, President Vision for Education Foundation, said that eye transplantation and donation are permissible and legal according to the fatwas of scholars and the laws and constitution of Pakistan. He added that we have successfully transplanted 1300 people under our organization. The chairman of the symposium, Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Bhutto, said that we are soon starting eye transplantation for children in Larkana under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah. He added that blood pressure and diabetes affect the eyes along with other parts of the body. In his address, Principal Chandka Medical College, Professor Zamir Ahmed Soomro, said that we congratulate the eye department for organizing an excellent symposium and that children should be given at least physical exercise. This will greatly reduce the incidence of vision impairment among children, along with other diseases. Professor Shanti Lal said in his address that children are our true asset and future. If our children are healthy, our future will be healthy. All pediatricians should also be trained in eye diseases in children. At the end of the symposium, the secretary of the symposium, Dr. Naeem Katpar, thanked the guests and said that now we will continue to organize awareness symposiums every year by the eye department. Dr. Darekta also addressed the symposium. The symposium was attended by Professor Sher Muhammad Sheikh, Dean Professor Gulzar Ahmed Sheikh, Professor Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, Professor Shahda Magsi, Director Academic Professor Shahid Hussain Soomro, former DHO Dr. Athar Shah, MS Dr. Niaz Ahmed Dahar, Dr. Diyali Gul, Security Incharge Sultan Ahmed Bhutto, Admin Officer Waheed Zaman, as well as students and officers of the faculty in large numbers.
