Ramzan Sugar Mills Reference: Arguments sought from PM’ counsel on plea of acquittal

LAHORE, (TLTP): Lahore Anti-Corruption Court on Monday directed defence counsel to substantiate his claim through arguments during next date of hearing seeking acquittal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz in Ramzan Sugar Mills reference matter.

Appearing before the court of Judge Sardar Iqbgal Dogar on Monday, pleader Anwar Hussain requested for another date of hearing in the matter saying senior counsel Amjad Pervaiz was not available to deliver arguments.

It is pertinent to mention that the case has been transferred to a special court from the National Accountability Bureau. The NAB alleged that Shahbaz Sharif, being chief minister of Punjab, had issued a directive for construction of a drain worth Rs200 million in district Chiniot primarily for the use of the sugar mills owned by his sons. Both the accused persons have invoked the special court jurisdiction filling application for acquittal in the case.

During the hearing on Monday, the court accepted an application on behalf of former chief minister Punjab Hamza Shebaz seeking exemption from appearance for one time on medical ground. Later, the court asked the pleader to ensure presence of senior defence counsel to present arguments in favor of acquittal applications and adjourned hearing of the case till January 22.TLTP
