News alert! Step Foundation Protests Over Lack of Facilities at Sukkur Civil Hospital.
SUKKUR: The Step Foundation staged a protest outside Sukkur Civil Hospital, highlighting the lack of healthcare facilities and the non-functional state of critical equipment for the past three years. Led by Shaista Khuhro, the protest drew a large crowd of men and women demanding immediate action from the government.
Protesters criticized the negligence of the hospital’s administration and the Sindh Health Department, pointing out that essential medical equipment, including CT scan and MRI machines, has been out of order for several years. As a result, patients are forced to seek costly treatments at private hospitals.
Addressing the gathering, Shaista Khuhro condemned the deteriorating state of the healthcare system, stating, The performance of the health department is worsening every day. The regional headquarters hospital lacks doctors, paramedical staff, and basic facilities, while broken machines remain unrepaired for years.
She further emphasized the failure of hospital management to provide timely treatment to patients, calling it a severe act of negligence.
Protesters demanded the immediate repair of non-functional machines, the recruitment of doctors and paramedical staff to address the shortage, and the provision of basic medical facilities to patients. They urged the government and the health department to take immediate notice of the issue, warning that failure to address their concerns would lead to an escalation of protests.
The protest highlighted the urgent need for reforms in the healthcare sector, urging authorities to prioritize patient welfare and ensure proper management of public hospitals.
