South Waziristan January. 28. Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) central center has become inactive, the people of the area have expressed their anger. Locals say that the main reason for the failure to resolve the issues is the negligence of the BISP Assistant Director. Despite filing repeated complaints to the authorities, the public is facing severe difficulties due to lack of staff at the center and poor performance of the existing staff. There is no effective system of checks and balances in the centre, as a result of which people from different areas come to the office daily to resolve their problems but return disappointed.

Ahmed Khan, village chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Ghulja, says that people’s problems are not being solved in the central BISP center of Wana. AD Nauman and Zahib are running the work through remote control from Dera Ismail Khan and have not even visited the Wana Center yet. Inadequate staff to deal with issues such as public identification documents, enrollment and registration. The number of DEOs is also low, and only three officials are performing the duties, which is insufficient for public needs.

Village Chairman Siddique Wazir also highlighted these issues in a video message and demanded the higher authorities to take immediate notice and make the BISP center fully operational. A youth from Shikai complained that it takes months to resolve issues like student registration, but lamented that the authorities and elected representatives are not showing any seriousness in solving public issues.

The officers posted at the Vana BISP Center did not come out with any response to these complaints. Ahmed Khan further said that he has raised these issues at the provincial level as well, but so far the problems of Wana Center have not been resolved.
