Protests Continue for Fourth Day Over Chotiyaroon Incident; Families Refuse to Bury Bodies, Demand Justice

SANGHAR (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Protests continued for the fourth consecutive day in front of the Sanghar Press Club over the Chotiyaroon incident, with the victims’ families refusing to bury their loved ones until justice is served. Initially, the families announced their decision to take the bodies for burial while continuing the protest, but later reversed their decision, stating that the widows of the deceased were not willing to proceed with the burial until justice was ensured.

The grieving families demanded the registration of an FIR against Alauddin and warned that if justice was not served, they would set themselves on fire in protest. The demonstration has gained momentum, with nationalist leaders Riaz Chandio and Dr. Niaz Kalani of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) joining the sit-in to express solidarity with the bereaved families.

Riaz Chandio issued an ultimatum to the Sindh government, stating, “We give the Sindh government until tonight to register the FIR and arrest the culprits. If no action is taken, we will announce a province-wide strike in collaboration with political and social organizations.” Dr. Niaz Kalani strongly condemned the incident, calling it an act of injustice and warning that if the demands of the victims’ families were not met, protests would escalate across Sindh.

Rahim Khoso, a leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto), also visited the protest site and labeled the incident as “state terrorism.” He criticized the government for its inaction, stating, “The bodies have been lying here for four days, and the victims’ families are waiting for justice, yet no government representative, MPA, or MNA has come forward to support them. We stand firmly with the victims’ families in their quest for justice.”

Meanwhile, protests erupted in other areas, including near Ghulam Qadir Mari village on the Hyderabad road, where demonstrators burned tires, blocking routes to major cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Adam, and Shahdadpur. The roadblocks caused severe traffic disruptions, leaving commuters stranded.

Sanghar SSP Ghulam Nabi Khehro confirmed that nine suspects had been arrested based on the families’ identification and assured that further investigations were underway. He added that police teams were conducting raids at different locations to apprehend more suspects.

The situation remains tense as families, backed by nationalist and opposition leaders, continue to demand swift action from the authorities.
