Former Senator and Industrialist Malik Imamuddin Calls for Justice and Development

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Former Senator of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and prominent industrialist Malik Imamuddin Shouqeen has expressed deep sorrow over the Sanghar incident, emphasizing the need for justice and a fair resolution based on law and transparency. He urged against politicizing the tragic event and stressed the importance of raising public awareness to combat corruption and bribery in Sindh.

Speaking at a “Meet the Press” event at the Tando Adam Press Club, Shouqeen highlighted the stagnation of Pakistan’s exports, which have remained between $23 billion and $28 billion for the past decade due to a lack of government priority.

Reflecting on his tenure as Chairman of Petroleum Social Development, he stated that he had fulfilled his responsibilities with honesty. “The largest petroleum share was in Tando Adam, followed by Shahdadpur and Sinjhoro. The funds were utilized with complete transparency and integrity,” he said, adding that any shortcomings in project execution were the contractors’ responsibility.

Shouqeen also announced ongoing and upcoming development initiatives in Tando Adam, including the expansion of Suleman Roshan Medical College into a university, with new faculties to enhance educational opportunities for local students. Additionally, he plans to restart mobile dispensaries in rural areas to improve healthcare access and tackle the shortage of medical staff. The solar energy project is also being revived.

To support journalists, he reinstated the annual Umrah package, with the first lucky draw held during the event, where Press Club General Secretary Javed Mustafa was selected.

Addressing corruption, he acknowledged that bribery has existed in Pakistan since its inception, fluctuating over time. He stressed the need to educate the public to eradicate this menace. “Even poorer nations have set examples in cleanliness, but Pakistan still struggles. Despite being blessed with natural resources, rivers, and the sea, we must become responsible citizens to drive positive change,” he remarked.

Regarding higher education, he revealed efforts to introduce more degree programs at New Aligarh Boys and Girls Colleges, ensuring local students do not have to leave their hometowns for higher studies.
