PROVINCIAL MINISTER FOR WOMEN DEVELOPMENT, SHAHINA SHER ALI VISITS KARACHI PRESS CLUB, ANNOUNCES DAYCARE CENTERS FOR CHILDREN OF WOMEN MEMBERS IN KPC
Karachi January 30: Provincial Minister for Women Development, Shahina Sher Ali visited the Karachi Press Club (KPC) and congratulated the newly elected office-bearers. KPC President Fazil Jameeli, Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan, Vice President Irshad Khokhar and Governing Body members Hafeez Baloch and Mona Siddiqui welcomed the Minister on her arrival at the club. During her visit, Minister Shahina Sher Ali announced the establishment of a Daycare center at the Press club for the children of women members aiming to alleviate the challenges faced by working women. Speaking to the media she highlighted the numerous difficulties working women encounter and emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing these issues. “We have already established Daycare centers at Karachi University and other institutions and now we will provide this facility at the Press club to ensure women journalists do not have to worry about their children while working,” she said.
The Minister also shared that the government is working to support women who are incarcerated due to legal complications or minor offenses. “We are providing legal assistance to women in prisons and planning to set up Daycare centers within jails for mothers who are imprisoned with their young children. Additionally in collaboration with the Education department, we will establish schools for these children to ensure their education is not disrupted,” she added. Regarding women residing in Darul Aman (shelters), Shahina Sher Ali mentioned that various vocational training programs are being conducted to help them become self-reliant. She assured women that any complaints they have will be addressed promptly through the complaint centers established for this purpose.
To address women’s travel concerns the Minister revealed that the Sindh government is soon launching a “Pink Taxi” service exclusively for women. This initiative will not only ensure safe travel for women but also empower them with greater independence. Shahina Sher Ali reiterated the Sindh Government’s dedication to improving the lives of women through serious measures and providing all possible facilities. “We are taking proactive steps for the welfare of women so they can progress in every field without fear or hesitation,” she stated. KPC President Fazil Jameeli, Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan, Vice President Irshad Khokhar, and members Hafeez Baloch and Mona Siddiqui praised the Minister’s initiatives and expressed hope for the implementation of further positive policies to promote women’s development and welfare.
