South Waziristan. January 31. The problem of smuggling of non-custom paid vehicles has intensified in the border areas of the Pak-Afghan border, due to which the country’s economy is suffering serious damage. According to details, smuggling has been going on in South Waziristan for a long time, and non-customs paid valuable vehicles are being transported in large numbers to interior areas of Pakistan.

In particular, the areas of South Waziristan, which is adjacent to the Pak-Afghan border, are where a large number of luxury vehicles are smuggled. These vehicles reach different parts of Pakistan through Gul Kuch, Ladha, and Makin routes. According to sources, 60 to 70 vehicles are smuggled into the country every day without any fear of passing through the police check posts.

According to the sources, the policemen of the Makin police station collect around Rs 10,000 bribe from each non-customs paid vehicle at Dara Pul, after which the vehicles are allowed to pass through the check posts. This bribe is then distributed among the police station occupants and other top police officers. In addition, the smuggled vehicles are loaded with foreign products, including foreign cigarettes, Chinese tobacco, dry fruits, and other non-customs-paid goods.
Smuggling is causing heavy losses to the national exchequer, as it leads to evasion and non-payment of taxes, which weakens the country’s economy day by day. This situation is not only detrimental to the country’s economy but also raises questions about the role of the government and law enforcement agencies.

Strict measures are needed to stop this situation so that this nefarious business of smuggling can be stopped. But it is worth mentioning here that there is no customs check post on the said route which makes it a customs free zone. From which the incompetence of the Chief Collector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can be well estimated.
