Chief Minister vows to make QDA profitable, financially independent institution

QUETTA: The Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti has vowed to make the Quetta Development Authority (QDA) profitable and financially independent institution.
He directed to the concerned quarters to run the Authority in such a manner that it may generate its resources at its own and lessen the dependency on the government grants.
He said that the development institutions generate sources of the income at their own in modern cities, so QDA may also be developed on the same model.
He also directed to prepare viable and sustainable projects for beautification of Quetta city and public facilitation.
The Chief Minister issued these directives to the concerned authorities while chairing meeting of QDA here on Tuesday.
During the course of meeting, matters about development of Quetta city, basic infrastructure and new projects were discussed.
The Director General QDA, Askar Khan briefed the meeting about the proposed projects for Quetta city. He also apprised about the ongoing and future development projects to be executed in the city.
The meeting was attended by the Parliamentary Secretary for QDA, Asfandyar Kakar, Chief Secretary, Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Development, Hafiz Abdul Basit, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Babar Khan, Secretary Finance, Imran Zarkoon, Head of Public Private Partnership Authority, Dr. Faisal Khan and other concerned high ups.
The Chief Minister stressed that sustainable strategy should be adopted for developing Quetta on modern lines and such projects be prepared that may not only benefit the people, but may also add to the overall development of the city.
While issuing directives to review the basic designs of proposed public park of QDA, the Chief Minister stressed that this project should be developed according to the public requirements.
He also directed to ensure provision of better facilities for general public in the park. Regarding issue of parking, the Chief Minister directed to make planning on it. He said that parking is given basic importance in the development projects all over the world, and as such special consideration may be given to this in Quetta as well.
In addition to this, he directed to expedite work on the projects of public welfare under public private partnership.
He said that there happens to be limited resources with the government, therefore, it is need of the hour to involve the private sector in development projects. He stressed that QDA should prepare such projects which attract the private investors.
The Chief Minister on the occasion made it clear that development of Quetta is top priority of the government and for the purpose, practical measures are being taken.
