Bhit Shah Kisan Conference Declares Resistance Against Anti-Farmer Policies and Sindh’s water rights on Indus

Hyderabad 16 Feb: Bhit Shah witnessed a historic nationwide Kisan Conference, successfully organized under the Pakistan Kisan Rabita Committee with the strong support of Sindhi Hari Tehreek, Hari Jidojehad Committee Sindh and Sindh Hari Purohit Committee. Farmer leaders and activists from across Pakistan gathered to voice their collective resistance against corporate farming, the construction of canals on the Indus River, and exploitative agricultural policies.

The conference unanimously rejected corporate farming as a death warrant for small farmers and warned that new canals on the Indus would turn Sindh into a desert.
Key demands included the abolition of corporate farming and equitable land distribution to tenant farmers and landless peasants, immediate compensation for 2022 flood victims in Sindh, higher taxation on the wealthy and investment in public services instead of neoliberal policies, refusal to repay foreign debts and redirecting funds to public welfare, protection of indigenous farmer communities (Bheel, Meghwar, Kolhi, and Bagri) from religious discrimination, inclusion of tenant farmers in the Kisan Card scheme and continuous operation of the rice plant in Shikarpur.
Prominent leaders, including Farooq Tariq, Advocate Wasand Thari, Ammar Ali Jan, Umrah Samo, Ammar Ali Jan, Mustafa Chandio, Advocate Wasand Thari, Younis Rahu, Ali Khoso, and others, reaffirmed their commitment to protecting farmers’ rights and resisting the government’s anti-people policies.
This conference marks the beginning of a nationwide movement for farmers’ rights, food sovereignty, and social justice.
