South Waziristan: Feb 18. The development projects in South Waziristan Upper have come to a grinding halt due to the non-availability of funds, resulting in a severe economic crisis in the region. The Contractors Association of South Waziristan Upper has expressed concern over the situation and demanded immediate release of funds from the government.
The association’s president, Noor Hassan Mehsud, stated that the contractors’ community plays a vital role in the development of any region, but the lack of funds has brought construction activities, including roads, buildings, and other development projects, to a standstill.
Mehsud emphasized that the situation has not only affected the contractors but also the laborers, traders, and owners of heavy construction machinery, causing them significant financial losses. He urged the government to release funds immediately to revive development activities in the region and address the problems faced by the local population.
It’s worth noting that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had previously approved development projects worth PKR 2.18 billion for the uplift of South Waziristan tribal district, which includes projects for local government, irrigation, agriculture, and livestock departments. However, the current lack of funds has hindered the progress of these projects.
