Peshawar: Feb 19. The “Right to Information” is considered a crucial element for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as it empowers citizens to actively participate in decision-making processes, hold governments accountable, and monitor progress on issues like poverty reduction, environmental protection, and social equality, ultimately contributing to a better future for all by enabling informed action and transparency. This was stated by Chief Information Commissioner, KP, Mrs. Farah Hamid Khan while addressing to the participants of the 9th international Conference on Sustainable Development Goals for a better Future (ICSDGBF-2025) at the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) in Islamabad.
Chief Commissioner also took onboard the participants on an access to information approach to gender equality and women’s empowerment. She added that women are able to access information to make informed choices on elements of their lives, push their governments and other power holders to guarantee their rights, have greater agency and control over their lives, and more meaningfully engage in public life.
Mrs. Farah Hamid Khan stressed upon the achievement of the SDGs through exercising Right to Information and ultimately leading to a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
