Financial issues of local governments to be resolved remaining in limited resources, says Shoaib Nosherwani

QUETTA: The Provincial Minister for Finance and Mines, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani has stated that the financial issues of local governments would be resolved remaining in the limited resources.
He said that our government is determined to resolve the issues of people at their doorstep mobilizing its potential for strengthening the district and Union councils.
He said that he is personally in favour of transferring powers to the elected representatives at the lower level, just because they can do good work in their respective districts.
He also said that provision of funds is necessary for purchase of the machinery by the local government institutions including the metropolitan and municipal corporations and committees.
The Provincial Minister for Finance was addressing the 10th meeting of Local Councils and Finance Commission here on Friday.
Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, who also happens to be the Chairman Local Councils and Finance Commission, presided over the meeting with co-chairman and Advisor for Local Government, Hamza Zehri.
The Secretary Local Government, Abdul Rauf Baloch, Special Secretary Finance, Jahangir Kakar, Officers of Local Government and Local Councils participated in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Shoaib Nosherwani said that the funds are being provided to the local government institutions under the formula already decided. This is on basis of 50 percent each for the population and on 50 percent on the basis of equality, he added.
He stressed that funds should be spent for development of all districts and public welfare there.
He assured that the policy would be devised for resolving the issue of payment the arrears.
