Karachi, Feb. 24– In a landmark meeting today at Circuit House Karachi, a delegation representing the proud and historic Meghwar community met with Dr. Khato Mal Jeevan, Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh. The delegation, comprising Dr. Dadan Ram Arshi, Sunil Kumar Kureka, Dr. Vasand Kumar Arshi, and Ratan Lal from the Meghwar Panchayat, voiced the longstanding grievances of their community, particularly regarding the lack of development in Ghotki district.
Dr. Dadan Ram Arshi highlighted the critical challenges faced by the Meghwar community, emphasizing their deep-rooted presence as one of Sindh’s oldest Indigenous groups. “We are a community of 20,000 voters in Ghotki district, yet we remain overlooked in essential developmental projects. Our contributions to Sindh’s cultural and economic landscape are undeniable, and it is time that our voices are heard and our rights are recognized,” he stated passionately.
The Meghwar community, descendants of the illustrious Indus Valley Civilization, have enriched Sindh’s artistic, social, and economic domains through their craftsmanship, spirituality, and unwavering commitment to peace. Their legacy lives on through intricate embroidery, profound folklore, and devotion to saints like Bhagat Kabir. However, despite their immense contributions, they continue to face systemic neglect and barriers to progress.
In response, Dr. Khato Mal Jeevan assured his full support, commending the Meghwar community for its resilience and cultural significance. He urged the youth to take an active role in advocating for their rights and representation, emphasizing that their leadership is crucial for the future of their community. “Minorities are the vibrant threads that strengthen the social fabric of our nation. Recognizing and empowering Indigenous communities like the Meghwars is vital for preserving Sindh’s heritage and ensuring an inclusive, just, and progressive society,” he remarked.
This meeting marks a significant step toward ensuring that the Meghwar community’s concerns are acknowledged at the highest levels of governance. It also underscores the need for dedicated efforts to safeguard the rights, traditions, and future of this historic community.
