Islamabad: A crucial meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Maqam, to address the grievances of the affectees of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam.
During the meeting, Federal Minister Engineer Amir Maqam stated that the development of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir is a top priority of the federal government. He assured that all legitimate demands of the protesters would be met.
Amir Maqam emphasized that the federal committee would work towards a permanent solution to the issues faced by Gilgit-Baltistan.
The meeting primarily focused on resolving longstanding grievances related to land compensation, water supply, sanitation, and the household resettlement package (Chulha Package).
On this occasion, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan stated that the GB government has formed a committee to address technical issues. He further mentioned that WAPDA officials would be included in the committee under the leadership of the Additional Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan.
It was decided in the meeting that senior WAPDA officials and the Gilgit-Baltistan committee would collaborate to resolve issues related to land acquisition and resettlement for the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. Furthermore, the federal committee also resolved to continue working towards an amicable resolution of the matter.
The high-level meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Water Resources Dr. Musadik Hussain Malik, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan, Chairman WAPDA Lieutenant General (Retd.) Sajjad Ghani, Secretary for Kashmir Affairs and SAFRON Zafar Hassan, Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan Ibrar Ahmad Mirza, Additional Secretary Kamran Rahman Khan, and other relevant officials.
