KP Chief Minister Orders Large-Scale Afforestation in Urban Areas
Peshawar, Feb 28: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, has issued special directives for large-scale afforestation in urban areas during the current spring season. The Chief Minister’s Secretariat has formally notified the Forestry & Environment and Local Government departments to initiate the afforestation process.
The directive emphasizes the importance of considering ecological balance, environmental, aesthetic, economic, and sociological aspects during the afforestation process in urban and peri-urban areas. Trees and plants should be selected based on local climate and weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and benefiting biodiversity and environmental stability.
Given the limited space in urban areas and the challenge of environmental pollution, the Chief Minister has stressed the need to plant relatively low-maintenance trees and plants. This initiative aims to promote ecological balance, mitigate environmental pollution, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of urban areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
