SWAT: March 5. Deputy Commissioner Swat Shahzad Mehboob visited Wajiha Thalassemia Center and Regional Blood Center at Central Hospital Saidu Sharif. On this occasion, he reviewed the medical facilities provided there and took a detailed briefing from the staff. Highlighting the performance of the Regional Blood Center, the administration told him that this Regional Blood Center plays a key role in ensuring blood supply to patients, especially thalassemia patients, and regularly collects blood donations. During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner Swat reviewed the treatment facilities available to children suffering from thalassemia and directed the hospital administration to provide timely and quality treatment to these children. On this occasion, Manager Regional Blood Center Swat and Hematologist Dr. Syed Muzammil Shah, DMS Dr. Farooq Ahmed, and officials of other government departments and parents of children undergoing treatment at Wajiha Thalassemia Center were also present. He also stressed that a transparent and safe blood donation process should be adopted, where complete testing and screening of blood should be done before donation to prevent the spread of deadly and dangerous diseases. Basic tests of donated blood include testing for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, syphilis, and malaria.
