Incident of burning border trade vehicles in Makola sparks concern among traders

Group Chairman of GCC, Naveed Kalmati strongly condemns incident, calling it an attack on Baloch economy; demands investigation

QUETTA: The unfortunate incident of burning vehicles engaged in border trade in Makola has sent shockwaves through the business community of Balochistan.
Group Chairman of Gwadar Chamber of Commerce (GCC), Naveed Kalmati, strongly condemned the incident, calling it an attack on the Baloch economy.
According to details, seven vehicles were set on fire, including two owned by traders from Kaldan, two belonging to Baloch traders from Awaran, and one owned by a trader from Mand. Following this incident, fear and anxiety have spread among the business community, while trade circles across Balochistan have also expressed strong reactions.
Naveed Kalmati stated that traders in Balochistan are already facing numerous challenges. On one hand, the central government imposes restrictions on border trade, and on the other, such incidents are causing severe financial losses to local businessmen. He further pointed out that Afghanistan endured fifty years of war, yet no group there ever targeted local traders. However, in Balochistan, traders are being subjected to such attacks, which is highly condemnable.
The Group Chairman of the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce urged Baloch traders and the public to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future, as they would only harm Balochistan. He emphasized that thousands of people in Balochistan depend on border trade for their livelihood, and if such incidents continue, they could inflict severe damage on the region’s economy.
The business community of Balochistan has demanded that the government investigate this incident and take immediate steps to ensure the protection of traders, preventing such occurrences in the future.
