BHC issues notice to Attorney General in PECA 2025 case
QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) ordered to issue notice to the Attorney General of Pakistan in the constitutional petition filed against the amendments in the Prevention of Electronics Crimes (Amendment) Act (PECA) 2025.
The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice of BHC, Mr. Justice Ejaz Ahmed Swati and Mr. Justice Amir Rana heard the case on Thursday.
It may be mentioned here that the petition had been filed by Balochistan Bar Council, Balochistan Union of Journalists and Human Right Commission challenging the PECA.
The BHC bench issued notice to Attorney General to present in the court under 27-A for response in the case.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
The Vice Chairman Bar Council Rahib Buledi Advocate appeared as the main counsel in the case. The BUJ President Khalil Ahmed also appeared in the court.
Meanwhile, speaking to media soon after hearing in the High Court, Rahib Buledi said that the PECA 2025 has been challenged by BBC, BUJ and Human Rights Commission in the court.
According to him, the court once again sought reply from Attorney General about the case. The Deputy Attorney General sought time from the court submitting that their reply is not ready, he mentioned.
Rahib Buledi said that the court expressed anger over non-submission of reply in the case. On this, the court summoned Attorney General directing him to appear in the court and submit reply.
The senior office bearer of Bar Council expressed the hope that the black law of PECA would be declared null and void after reply of the Attorney General.
He said that this Act is against freedom of expression and just brought to exert pressure on media person.
