Gilgit-Baltistan, Chilas – A special committee led by the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, visited Chilas, Gilgit-Baltistan.
The delegation included Federal Minister for Water Resources Muin Wattoo, Chairman WAPDA General (Retd.) Sajjad Ghani, Federal Secretary Zafar Hassan, along with the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan, Chief Secretary Abrar Ahmad, Additional Chief Secretary, and other senior officials from Gilgit-Baltistan.

During the visit, the delegation met with the Jirga of the Diamer Basha Dam affectees. Addressing the gathering, Federal Minister Amir Muqam stated that the current government has made the rehabilitation of the affectees of Basha Dam and Dasu Dam, as well as the development of the region, its top priority.
He assured the affectees that the government is working on a priority basis to resolve issues related to the Chulha Package, resettlement programs, health, education, and infrastructure. He also promised to make a special recommendation to the Prime Minister for the establishment of a Danish School in Chilas.
WAPDA also announced the doubling of sessions at the WAPDA College for affectees and financial support for medical and engineering students’ tuition fees.
The Federal Minister directed WAPDA officials to ensure the construction of 23 schools under CBM (Confidence-Building Measures) and the timely payment of land compensation.
During the Jirga, the affectees presented their concerns, following which immediate instructions were issued to the technical committee. The Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner Diamer were directed to compile recommendations on these issues and forward them to the federal government.
Federal Minister for Water Resources Muin Wattoo, Chairman WAPDA General (Retd.) Sajjad Ghani, and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan also addressed the Jirga.
