Avalanche Clearance Update at Khichik, HQ Astore
Astore has experienced heavy rainfall and fresh snowfall over the past 50 hours, triggering an avalanche in the Khichik area that has blocked the Astore Valley Road (AVR).
Clearance Operations
Chairman DDMA Astore has mobilized GBDMA’s wheel excavator to clear the avalanche, which spans 400 feet in length and 25-30 feet in height. Today’s operation successfully cleared 100 feet of the avalanche.
Challenges and Next Steps
Due to low visibility, continuous rainfall, and slides, the operation has been temporarily halted. Assistant Commissioner Astore, Ex En C&W and AD GBDMA are monitoring the situation closely. Clearance efforts are expected to resume, with the blockade possibly being cleared by 1600 hrs.
