Shutter down strike observed in various parts of Balochistan
QUETTA: The shutter down strike was observed in different parts of Balochistan on call of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), on Monday.
The BNP had given call of shutter down against arrest of the activists of Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) and other political activists besides not allowing its long march to proceed for Quetta from Mastung.
The shutter down strike was reportedly observed in Mastung, Kalat, Sorab, Khuzdar, Noshki, Turbat, Panjgur, Gwadar, Kharan and other different areas of the province. Similarly, the shutter down was also observed in different localities of the metropolis including Jail road, Sariab road, Hudda, Mano Jan road, and adjoining areas.
The shops, business concerns and financial institutions remain closed due to the shutter down strike there. However, the business activities continued in routine in the main and central parts of the city where most of the shops and business concerns were open.
While the BNP had given call for shutter down strike in the province and it was supported by different political parties, the call was also given by Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) against detention of its leader, Nawabzada Gohram Bugti and the BYC activists and other political workers.
On the other hand, the spokesman of provincial government claimed that the people of province rejected the shutter down strike called by the BNP. Speaking to a media group, the spokesman said that the business concerns and shops remain opened in Quetta city and different other parts.
The main Quetta-Karachi highway was also blocked in Wadh area of Khuzdar and Lak Pass area of Mastung.
Due to blockade of highways, the traffic remain suspended causing inconvenience and hardships to the transporters and passengers.
Meanwhile, the protest sit-in of the BNP entered 11th consecutive day in Lak Pass area, on Monday. It may be mentioned here that the sit-in is being led by the party chief, Sardar Akhtar Mengal.
