Islamabad: April 9, 2025: On the occasion of Constitution Day, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq congratulated the nation and stated that April 10, 1973, marked the approval of a consensus Constitution, which is a shining chapter in Pakistan’s democratic history. This Constitution laid a strong foundation for national unity, protection of public rights, and institutional stability. He emphasized that the supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law, and democratic continuity are indeed the guarantees of national development and stability.
The Speaker of the National Assembly paid tribute to all political parties, their leaders, and members of the Assembly present in the 1973 Assembly, highlighting that the political leadership of that time set aside their differences to provide a consensus constitutional framework for the country and the nation. He remarked that this framework continues to be the basis of our national identity and democratic system today. He underlined the importance of the Constitution by stating that it is regarded as the supreme and fundamental law of the state, determining the governance of the state, the powers and jurisdictions of various institutions, as well as the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
He mentioned that the current Parliament is committed to improving legislation for public welfare and enhancing governance in a more efficient and transparent manner. The Speaker of the National Assembly emphasized the need for promoting unity among all political forces in order to address the challenges facing the country, drawing inspiration from the cooperative spirit of the 1973 Assembly, and working together in the national interest. He also highlighted the importance of familiarizing the younger generation with the fundamental principles of the Constitution of Pakistan and their effective role in national development.
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also extended congratulations to the nation on Constitution Day, stating that April 10, 1973, is a symbol of Pakistan’s democratic sovereignty. He noted that under the leadership of the martyr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the nation received a consensus Constitution that continues to exemplify federalism, democracy, and national unity.
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly remarked that the constitutional services provided by the political leadership in the 1973 Assembly are a proud asset of our national history, which will always be remembered. He concluded by stating that to ensure the development, prosperity, and protection of public rights, we must firmly uphold the Constitution and follow in the footsteps of those leaders.
