China-Pakistan Joint Research Center Director General Visits Karakoram International University with Delegation
Gilgit (PR): Professor Su Lichun, Director General of the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (CPJRC), visited Karakoram International University (KIU) along with a delegation. According to KIU’s Public Relations Department, this visit marks a significant step toward strengthening academic and research collaboration between KIU and CPJRC. The delegation met with KIU’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Abdul Hameed Lone, along with senior administrative and academic officials. Discussions focused on joint initiatives, including promoting scientific research and academic exchanges.
The meeting explored opportunities for collaboration in areas such as disaster prevention in the Himalayan, Hindu Kush, and Karakoram regions, climate change research, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Both sides expressed their commitment to leveraging shared expertise to foster innovation and address regional challenges.
Dr. Abdul Hameed Lone welcomed the delegation, highlighting KIU’s role as a hub for higher education in Gilgit-Baltistan and its commitment to supporting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) through research and academic exchange. He noted that the visit opens new avenues for collaboration with CPJRC on projects beneficial to the region.
Professor Su Lichun praised KIU’s contributions to education and research in a geographically significant region and emphasized the potential for joint scientific and training programs. The meeting also discussed opportunities to further expand KIU’s existing academic ties with Chinese institutions for students and faculty.
The visit concluded with both parties agreeing to develop a roadmap for future collaboration, including workshops, research projects, and student exchange programs. Following the meeting, Professor Su Lichun and the delegation visited the under-construction China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences at KIU and reviewed the progress of the construction work.
