Sardar Akhtar Mengal announces to end 20-day long protest dharna at Lakpass
BNP President maintains protest rallies to be taken out in different districts in place of dharna with maiden in Mastung on April 18; party’s central committee’s meeting convened in Quetta to review situation & devise future course of action
QUETTA: The President Balochistan National Party (BNP), Sardar Akhtar Mengal has announced to end 20-day long protest dharna (sit-in) continued in Lakpass area of Mastung, citing the public hardships reason behind it.
The BNP chief announced that the protest sit-in has come to an end, but our protest would remain continued in form of protest rallies instead. He urged the political parties and tribal elders to join the party in its protest.
In addition to this, Sardar Akhtar Mengal also announced that a meeting of central executive committee of BNP has been convened on April 18 in Quetta to review the situation and devise future course of action.
These very announcements were made by Sardar Akhtar Mengal while addressing a scheduled press conference at the dharna point in Lakpass on Wednesday noon.
The senior vice president of BNP, Sajid Tareen Advocate and other party leaders besides the political and tribal elders were also present.
Prominent among them were Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani and others.
Addressing the press conference, the BNP chief said that the party had announced long march on March 24, against what it termed “extra-constitution” arrest of Dr. Mah Rang Baloch and other women. He said that we had to reach Quetta on March 28, the passage was closed at Lak pass stopping the march towards Quetta. Even the people were not allowed to participate in the long march from Quetta and other areas, he added. On this, we decided to stage dharna at the same point, Lak pass, Sardar Akhtar Mengal mentioned adding that it was an unprecedented in the history of Pakistan to stage protest in a deserted place like Lak pass.
He said that the protest sit-in remains continued for 20 days, on Wednesday. He on the occasion thanked the political leaders and tribal elders on their support to the protest dharna of party for the cause of release of Dr. Mah Rang Baloch and other women, arrested under 3-MPO. He especially thanked the people of Mastung who hosted the participants of dharna.
The BNP chief also thanked the political parties on their participation in the All-Parties Conference (APC) arranged by his party at the dharna point.
He said that it was our foremost demand to give us right of peaceful, democratic and political protest, but it was denied by the government. He said that no one prove that our demands are illegitimate and unconstitutional.
He said that though our protest sit-in has ended, but not our protest, and it would remain continued for our cause.
He said that the protest rallies would be taken out in Mastung, Kalat, Panjgur, Turbat, Khuzdar, Gwadar and other different areas to lodge our protest, with the maiden rally to be taken out in Mastung on April 18.
Besides, the meeting of CEC of BNP has also been convened in Quetta on April 18, to take review of the situation and devise future course of action, he maintained.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal on the occasion lamented the government for closing highways and roads itself, besides failing to maintain law and order situation.
He said that closure of roads and highways and so, is nothing but failure of the government.
He said that we have no expectations from the government, which don’t make its decision at its own.
