Sindhi Shagrid Tahreek’s Massive Caravan Protests at Babarlo Sit-In
Sukkur/Babarlo: April 27: A large caravan of Sindhi Shagrid Tahreek (SST), led by its Central President Advocate Naveed Abbas Kalhoro, marched from Theri to Babarlo, raising sky-high slogans against CCI, SIFC, Zardari, the Sindh Government, and the Federal Government.
Chants of “No need of CCI” and “No need of SIFC” filled the air, along with rhyming slogans that resonated with the crowd:
“CCI drank the water,
CCI consumed the coal,
CCI consumed the electricity,
CCI drank the petrol,
CCI consumed the granite.”
Addressing the sit-in, Advocate Naveed Abbas Kalhoro rejected any drama about the Sindh Government’s helplessness. He said that the Sindh Government has full authority to cancel the leases signed under corporate farming, and no one else can be blamed.
He further stated that the core issue is land grabbing, which has been ongoing since the creation of Pakistan. Every dictator attempted it, but even the first civilian Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan, grabbed cities, forts, and libraries under the pretext of refugee claims.
He emphasized that the construction of new canals is directly tied to corporate farming. “If the land is not grabbed, there will be no need for new canals,” he said. “Cancel the leases, and the canals will automatically lose their importance.”
The protest showed strong unity and a clear message: The people of Sindh will not allow corporate farming or land grabbing under any name.
He strongly condemned the police firing on the peaceful sit-in at Kandhkot Gola Mor, stating that peaceful protest is a constitutional right of the people and must not be suppressed through state violence.
