People of Sindh must not fall for false propaganda, the canal project still exists said Vasand Thari
Mithi/ Tharparkar (Press Release) The Central President of the Awami Tehreek Advocate Vasand Thari, addressed an emergency press conference at Hassan Pasayo Hall in Mithi, announcing the continuation of a peaceful democratic struggle against water theft and corporate farming. He said that the people of Sindh must not fall for false propaganda, the canal project still exists. The council of common interest (CCI) decision does not mention the words reject or cancel for the canals. In reality, the canal decision in the CCI has been made conditional to the CCI’s approval. The people of Sindh will never remain silent. We will fight until justice is served, Sindh’s resources are protected, and anti-people laws including Board of Amendment act 2023 and others are abolished.
He further added that the Awami Tehreek has warned from the beginning that if the canal issue goes to the CCI, Sindh will suffer – and that is exactly what has happened. As a committee formed by the CCI (Council of Common Interests) under the guise of ‘food security and environmental protection’ is actually promoting the interests of corporate encroachers. The composition of this committee remains ambiguous, raising serious concerns.
Vasand Thari stated that IRSA’s (Indus River System Authority) fake water availability certificates, based on manipulated data, must be immediately rejected. He demanded legal action under Article 6 of the Constitution against IRSA members for conspiring against the nation by approving fraudulent certificates, warning that such acts could instigate civil war and provoke inter-provincial conflict.
He added that Murad Ali Shah has betrayed the Sindhi people, just as he did with the fraudulent census that reduced Sindhis to a minority. The PPP has staged a drama of the CCI to sabotage Sindh’s peaceful resistance. The CCI’s structure is biased, with Punjab holding permanent majority control, marginalizing Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Sindh government must immediately revoke the illegal land allotment to Green Corporate Private Limited and redistribute these 52,713 acres to local landless farmers. The Board of Investment Amendment Act 2023, PECA Ordinance, and other black laws must be abolished. Institutions like SIFC (Special Investment Facilitation Council), which undermine democracy, should be dissolved.
The canal issue has become more dangerous. The PPP has again betrayed Sindh by not formally canceling the canals. Our struggle will continue until corporate farming and canals are eradicated. The Awami Tehreek and Sindhiyani Tehreek will continues protests, rallies, and a rally will be held today (April 29) in Tando Allahyar.
