Young Man Drowns in Tando Adam Branch Canal – Second Such Incident in Two Weeks
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) A 22-year-old man, Dilshad’s son of Gulshir Malokhani, tragically drowned while bathing in the Tando Adam Branch Canal within the jurisdiction of Tando Adam B Section Police Station. According to sources, the incident occurred while the young man was swimming, and his body was recovered after a six-hour search by local divers.
Police were informed immediately after the recovery of the body, which was then taken to the Taluka Hospital for necessary legal procedures before being handed over to the grieving family. Upon arrival of the body at his home, a heartbreaking scene unfolded as relatives mourned the untimely loss.
This is the second drowning incident reported in the area within the past two weeks. Local residents allege that during canal closure periods, certain areas of the canal are illicitly handed over to private soil contractors by irrigation department staff. These contractors reportedly use crane machines to dig deep pits in the canal bed, leaving behind dangerous and uneven surfaces. When water flow resumes, these hidden depths become fatal traps for unsuspecting bathers, especially during the summer heat.
Residents are demanding immediate action and a thorough investigation into the alleged negligence and corruption, calling for the responsible irrigation staff and contractors to be held accountable to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
