International Midwifery Day Celebrated at Shahdadpur SIMS Hospital
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) International Midwifery Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at SIMS Hospital Shahdadpur. The event included a seminar, and an awareness walk, with participation from health officials, doctors, and students.
The celebration was hosted by Safina Niaz, Principal of the Midwifery School, who welcomed the guests. Among the prominent attendees were District Health Officer (DHO) Sanghar Dr. Daulat Jamali, SMS Director Dr. Bashir Ahmed Jamali, Dr. Khair-un-Nisa Pathan, Dr. Sautri Narayan, Dr. Saima Saleem, Dr. Sanober Irfan, Deputy DHO Dr. Aslam Chhutto, Niaz Detho, and others.
In their speeches, the guests highlighted that the Midwifery Program was initiated by the late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto with the aim of improving maternal and child health in rural and underprivileged areas. They emphasized the program’s success in reducing maternal and infant mortality, noting that SMS Hospital Shahdadpur has successfully trained 16 consecutive batches of midwives, whose results consistently top the charts—an achievement that was widely applauded.
On the occasion, Safina Niaz, Rukhsana Aman, Zakia Mangi, Zahida Zulfiqar, and Shama Gulani presented traditional Sindhi Ajraks to the guests as a token of respect and culture.
Midwifery students participated in speech competitions and performed tableaus to mark the day. The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by an awareness walk with the guests and participants.
