QUETTA: The poliovirus has been detected in the environmental samples of three districts of Balochistan province.
According to the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme, the wild poliovirus 1 (WPVI) has been detected in the environmental samples of Quetta, Loralai and Zhob districts. However, the samples collected from Noshki and Sibi districts have been tested negative with no poliovirus detected.
The environmental samples were collected for detection of the polio virus in the environmental samples between April 7-17, 2025.
It may be mentioned here that a nationwide anti polio campaign was successfully run all over Balochistan province from April 21-27.
the next nationwide campaign is scheduled from May 26 to June 01, aiming to vaccinate 45.4 million children under the age of five across the country including 2.66 million children in Balochistan.
The Polio Programme urges all parents to vaccinate their children against polio every time the vaccine is offered. Repeated vaccination strengthens children’s immunity and protects them from the crippling poliovirus.
It is the prime responsibility of parents and community members to ensure that no child in their homes or neighbourhoods is left unvaccinated. Every missed child is at risk and can contribute to the continued spread of the poliovirus. Protecting children from polio is a shared duty and starts with timely vaccination.
