QUETTA: The Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti has stated that the provincial government is committed to revitalizing sports and fully supporting the talent in Balochistan. He emphasized that the province is rich in talent and, with proper support, athletes from Balochistan can make Pakistan proud on the global stage. While congratulating the organizers of the first-ever international boxing event held in Pakistan, he called the successful hosting of the Pakistan International Boxing Championship in Balochistan a major achievement. He highlighted that the enemies of the region have always tried to keep sports grounds deserted and deprive youth of positive activities. However, today’s event clearly reflects the love of the people of Balochistan for peace, sports, and athletes. The Chief Minister said that when the idea of holding this important event in Quetta was first shared with him, it seemed like a distant dream. But today, by the grace of Allah, it has become a reality. He credited the Lieutenant General Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan, Commander 12 Corps, and internationally renowned boxer Muhammad Waseem for playing a pivotal role in making the event successful. He expressed pride in the defenders of the nation, stating that the armed forces and air force of Pakistan have thwarted enemy plans and ensured the country’s defence and sovereignty. He criticized India for mistaking Pakistan’s peace efforts as weakness and praised the military for forcing the enemy to request a ceasefire. The Chief Minister specially thanked Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff for providing a safe and secure future for the youth of Pakistan by crushing the enemy’s malicious intentions. He reiterated that the province would continue to promote sports and honor its athletes. He also commended the World Boxing Association for their cooperation and praised their presence as a testament to the peaceful and sports-loving nature of the people of Pakistan and Balochistan. It is worth mentioning that Pakistani boxing star Muhammad Waseem delivered the best performance of his career on Saturday, defeating Venezuela’s Ernesto Arinyo in the ninth round to win the WBA World Gold Bantamweight Title. Quetta’s Fatima Hazara and Pakistani boxer Sahir Iqbal also won their respective titles. The event was attended by the Governor of Balochistan, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Speaker of Balochistan Assembly Capt. (R) Abdul Khaliq Khan Achakzai, MNA Nawabzada Jamal Khan Raisani, provincial ministers, members of the assembly, top civil and military officials, and a large number of citizens, besides the WBA President’s advisor, international boxers, officials from various countries. At end of the event, there was also display of spectacular fireworks.
