Islamabad, May 15, 2025: Renowned civil society organization Subh-e-Nau has proposed the establishment of a National Tree Plantation Day to commemorate Pakistan’s unity and resilience during the recent escalation of tensions with India.
In a letter addressed to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Subh-e-Nau Chairperson Mrs. Shahida Kausar Farooq congratulated the people, government, and Armed Forces of Pakistan for their calm, united, and dignified response. She suggested that this collective strength be honored through a meaningful and lasting initiative, a nationwide tree plantation drive.
Mrs. Farooq proposed that this day serve a dual purpose: to celebrate national unity and to combat climate change. She urged that the initiative begin this year, emphasizing Pakistan’s vulnerability to global warming and the critical role of tree plantation in environmental protection.
Referring to Pakistan’s strategic response during the conflict, she noted that the nation remained steadfast and composed in the face of provocation. “This national strength should not only be remembered as a historical moment but also be tied to a forward-looking vision — one rooted in peace, resilience, and sustainability,” she stated.
She also called on the government to prioritize the plantation of native and climate-resilient tree species, in coordination with federal and provincial departments, to ensure long-term ecological benefits and adaptability to changing climate conditions.
Subh-e-Nau has offered its full advisory support to the government in the planning and promotion of this initiative. The organization hopes the proposed campaign will transform a moment of national resilience into a concrete step toward a greener and more peaceful future.
