JSQM Stages Protest Against Controversial Canals, Corporate Farming and Moro Incident

Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Sand) Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) organized a strong protest in Tando Adam against the construction of controversial canals in Sindh, corporate farming practices, the enforced disappearance of nationalist worker Sarwar Abro, and the recent incident in Moro. The protest was led by District Deputy Organizer Allah Dad Mari and Taluka President Ghulam Shabbir Korejo.

Protesters carried placards and banners, chanting slogans against what they termed as injustices being committed against Sindh and its people.

Addressing the gathering, leaders including Allah Dad Mari, Shabbir Korejo, Irshad Brohi, Babu Bheel, and others said that the people of Sindh have already rejected the proposed canal projects on the Indus River, yet construction continues in defiance of public opposition. They condemned the allocation of millions of acres of agricultural land to non-locals under the guise of corporate farming, calling it a blatant injustice to the indigenous farmers of Sindh.

The leaders expressed grave concern over the disappearance of nationalist activist Sarwar Abro, who has been missing for the past ten days. They labeled his disappearance a severe violation of human rights.

They also strongly condemned the Moro incident, where they alleged that peaceful protesters were fired upon, resulting in the martyrdom of JSQM workers. The leadership further accused authorities of forcibly seizing the bodies of the deceased, falsely declaring them unclaimed, and burying them without family consent—an act they described as a gross violation of social and cultural values.

Additionally, they alleged that retaliatory actions were being carried out in Moro, with villagers’ homes and shops belonging to nationalist activists being demolished—an example of extreme state oppression.

The JSQM leaders demanded a complete halt to the canal project, redistribution of corporate-farmed lands to local peasants, immediate recovery of Sarwar Abro, a judicial inquiry into the Moro incident, and an end to all retaliatory actions. They warned that if their demands were not met, the scope of protests would expand across the entire district.
