Karachi, July 2 – Chairman of Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association (PYMA), Saqib Goodluck, completely rejected Articles 37A and 37B added to the Sales Tax Act in the Finance Bill, saying that these laws will become a source of harassment for the business community, which cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

Criticizing these clauses, PYMA Chairman Saqib Goodluck said that giving excessive powers to the tax authorities is unjust and detrimental to businesses. He said that to increase tax revenue, it is necessary to create a favorable business environment, not to intimidate traders. Goodluck emphasized that revenue generation depends on business growth; if businesses close down, the government loses its source of income.

He appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, and FBR Chairman Asim Ahmed to revoke the controversial clauses and address the concerns prevailing in the business sector. Goodluck said that these laws treat business owners like lawbreakers, creating fears of harassment based on mere suspicion. The PYMA chairman demanded that the government prioritize growth-oriented policies and facilitate business activities instead of enacting such harmful laws. He said that creating a supportive environment fosters the growth of companies and industries and generates employment opportunities.
