PFA Achieves Milestone in Enforcement for FY 2024–25

Lahore, July 2, 2025: Punjab Food Authority  reported a record increase in enforcement operations during the fiscal year 2024–25, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab for a Healthy Punjab. Despite limited resources, PFA teams remained active throughout the year. Under the supervision of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid.

 

Food safety teams carried out 12,35,741 inspections during the year. As a result, 119,285 food outlets were fined with penalties amounting to Rs1.52 billion marking a 164% increase from the previous year. In addition, 3,300 food premises were sealed while 1,344 FIRs were registered for violations of food laws. DG added that 18,937 food samples were collected for laboratory testing to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

 

DG PFA said that food safety teams discarded 142,114 litres of substandard oil, 117,775 litres of unsafe beverages, water and 686,000 kilograms of unfit meat, reflecting an 89.13% increase from the previous year. Similarly, 1.62 million litres of adulterated milk and 55,974 kilograms of substandard spices were also disposed of during enforcement operations.

 

He said Punjab Food Authority has also focused on public awareness and food safety education. Over 450,000 food handlers were trained across Punjab, while 1,884 seminars and awareness camps were conducted in various districts. A total of 197,447 individuals, including 25,624 Hajj pilgrims were trained in nutrition practices.

To address women’s health and public awareness, PFA launched the “Eat Safe Women” campaign and continued its broader “Eat Safe” initiative.

 

DG further said that the newly launched School Nutrition Program distributed free healthy lunchboxes to 10,786 school children for a two month period. Additionally Authority is rolling out the “Kheelta Punjab Nutrition Program” and strengthening the “Eat Safe Kids” initiative aimed at improving child health.

He has requested the public to support PFA’s efforts against food adulteration and report any complaints through 1223 helpline.
