Karachi, July 20, 2025 : The Sindh government has announced a record budget of Rs 42 billion for universities along with the expansion of the digital skills program. The second phase of the Peoples Information Technology will train 35,000 students in 12 in-demand IT fields with an investment of Rs 1.4 billion.
Provincial representative Sharjeel Inam Memon termed the program an exemplary initiative for incorporating youth into the digital workforce. In the initial phase, 13,565 participants received training in modern IT fields, while 300 top performers were awarded laptops and Chromebooks.
The increased funding for universities for the fiscal year 2025-26 is the provincial government’s largest investment in higher education across the region. Memon reiterated the government’s commitment to equipping the new generation with modern technology skills.
He cited recent infrastructure improvements including the new Food Engineering Department facility (Rs 96.481 million) and the International Boys Hostel (Rs 67.11 million) at NED University as proof of commitment to enhancing higher education facilities.
