Naushahro Feroze, August 5,
(SPECIAL REPORT): National Peoples Party (NPP) leader Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi, speaking to reporters after appearing in court, defended the democratic right to form political organizations. He expressed unawareness of Reham Khan’s newly formed party but emphasized that the formation of such groups is the foundation of Pakistani democracy.
Jatoi accused the Sindh provincial administration of attempting to suppress dissent and criticized their objections to journalists contacting opposition members. He reiterated the NPP’s commitment to peaceful protest and tolerance and condemned the alleged misuse of law enforcement agencies for political revenge and fabricated charges.
The NPP chairman expressed confidence in the judicial system’s ability to differentiate between fact and fiction and indicated his readiness to accept court decisions, even if it meant the cancellation of bail. He questioned the heavy police presence at the court and suggested that these resources could be used more effectively for public welfare.
Jatoi’s appearance in the Naushahro Feroze Anti-Terrorism Court pertained to the Lungar House arson and siege incident. The proceedings were adjourned until August 11. Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from Naushahro Feroze, Nawabshah, and Sanghar districts, along with a large police contingent, were present at the court.
