Sanghar(Hasnain Ashiq Saand) A high-level seminar was organised at Shah Abdul Latif Municipal Library here on Thursday to review the initial framework for Tando Adam’s upcoming Master Plan, under the auspices of the Sindh Government’s Planning & Development Department and its Urban Regional Policy and Strategic Planning Wing.
Senior officials, planning consultants, and representatives of various government departments and civic institutions participated in the seminar, which aimed to engage stakeholders in shaping the long-term urban development strategy for the growing city.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of Urban Regional Policy Zulfiqar Ali Kumbhar, Assistant Director Ali Murad Abro, consultant Syed Babar Shah, and Assistant Director Dayaldas Rathore shared key insights into the planning process and urged local input to ensure the master plan reflects ground realities.
Mr Shah, representing EE Consulting, the firm tasked with drafting the plan, stated that the project is part of a broader initiative launched in 2013 to develop master plans for major urban centres across Sindh. He said that 17 city master plans have already been completed, while work is ongoing in 14 others, including Tando Adam, Kotri, Hala, and Moro, which fall under the third phase.
He explained that the plan aims to address the city’s needs over the next 20 years, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, education, water supply, sanitation, transport infrastructure, green spaces, and other essential urban services.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Kumbhar stressed the urgency of structured urban planning in response to the city’s rapid population growth. He said failure to plan ahead could strain resources and lead to severe infrastructure challenges. He also encouraged stakeholders and residents to actively provide feedback and local insights to improve the plan’s relevance and impact.
Taluka Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Junejo thanked the provincial government for initiating the process and termed it a “landmark step” towards the sustainable development of Tando Adam. He expressed hope that the plan would serve as a comprehensive roadmap to resolve long-standing civic issues.
The session included an interactive discussion where participants raised questions and shared recommendations for improving various aspects of the city’s development.
Among the attendees were Assistant Commissioner Hunain Tariq Shahani, DSP Abdul Sattar Gurgej, TMO Abdul Hameed Malik, District Education Officers Liaquat Chandio and Ghulam Mustafa Laghari, Dr Farooq Arain, Engineer Ghulam Nabi Memon, Mushtaq Ali Mari from the Buildings Department, Engineer Abdul Hameed Bhacho, Public Health Engineer Awais Shafi, Mukhtiarkar Raham Ali Zardari, TEOs Mukhtiar Umrani and Ali Bhano, and SSGC official Waseem Memon, among others.
