CM directs administration to remain on high alert for heavy rains

Karachi, August 18, 2025  : A meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reviewed preparations in view of the expected heavy rains. The meeting specifically considered the situation in Karachi. All dams in Tharparkar district are full after the recent rains.

Provincial Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and other senior officials attended the meeting. Mayor Murtaza Wahab briefed the meeting about the ongoing cleaning work in 44 major drains in Karachi. The Chief Minister was briefed on the weather situation in Karachi and told that rain is expected to start tonight.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that 120 suction trucks are ready to drain water from low-lying areas. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is being contacted for the procurement of necessary equipment. He further informed that cleaning work of about 150 drains is underway across the city.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, referring to the rains in Thar, said that all the dams in the area have been filled due to the recent rains, which will ensure water supply to the local population. He directed all civic agencies across Sindh to remain on high alert. He also directed the administrative authorities and traffic police to remain vigilant to manage the traffic flow during the rains.
