Karachi, August 18, 2025 Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting of the Local Government Department to review key development projects in Karachi and Hyderabad. Key officials, including Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, attended. The meeting focused on the Rs78.087 billion allocated for local bodies in the province’s 2025-26 budget.
This substantial funding supports 765 development programs, comprising 696 ongoing and 60 new projects. However, the Local Government Minister pointed out that current progress on ongoing projects is only 7 percent.
Karachi’s development agenda includes six mega-projects worth Rs8.2 billion. These encompass the construction of the FB Area Allama Iqbal Park, the rehabilitation of the Nahar-e-Khayyam, and the development of a sports complex in District Central. Improvements to critical infrastructure such as the reconstruction of the Korangi Causeway, road construction in Sachal Goth, and drainage system repairs in Manzoor Colony are also prioritized.
Additional projects include stormwater drainage solutions, the establishment of the N-5 poultry market on the Malir River, and a new junction at the Korangi Causeway on Shahrah-e-Faisal. Recognizing the need for immediate action, the Chief Minister directed expedited work on these Karachi mega-projects and promised site visits to monitor progress.
Thirteen new Karachi-focused initiatives were also discussed, including urban renewal in old areas, enhancements to central business districts, and the beautification of traditional KMC markets. Road construction and rehabilitation projects at various locations, alongside stormwater drain improvements and road construction in Shah Faisal Colony, are slated for implementation.
Further projects involve connecting roads to Shahrah-e-Faisal, constructing new roads in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and from Hub River Road to Ittehad Town. Ambitious proposals like a new traffic corridor, a flyover on Sir Shah Suleman Road, and the development of Kidney Hill Park and a Gutter Baghicha public park complete the suggestions. New schemes also encompass graveyard development and a hockey ground in Nazimabad.
Hyderabad’s development agenda includes three new projects for 2025-26. These comprise a Rs1.2 billion water supply scheme in Latifabad, a Rs2 billion water treatment plant in Musri Goth, and another water filtration project in Khanpur. Highlighting the significance of these projects, the Chief Minister stated that, along with completed roads, these would significantly help address the city’s challenges
