GBDMA’s Preparedness and Response to Natural Disasters Praised

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information, Gilgit-Baltistan, Iman Shah, recently visited the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) warehouse to inspect the resources and relief materials available. During the visit, Director General GBDMA, Zaker Hussain, provided a detailed briefing on the warehouse’s contents, including emergency response equipment and other resources.

 

The briefing also covered the current flood situation, its impact, and ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. A key meeting was held at GBDMA, where senior officials informed the Special Assistant about the recent natural disasters in Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly the flood situation, and the authority’s short-term and long-term measures to address these disasters.

 

Iman Shah praised GBDMA’s performance, stating that the authority’s timely strategy and effective measures play a crucial role in public welfare and protection. He assured full cooperation from the Gilgit-Baltistan government, emphasizing the importance of disaster risk management in the region .

 

GBDMA has been actively engaged in disaster management efforts, with a focus on providing relief and support to affected communities. The authority’s initiatives include.                GBDMA has developed a comprehensive plan to mitigate disaster risks and respond promptly to emergencies.

– Relief and Rehabilitation: The authority is working to provide essential supplies and services to flood-affected areas.

– Collaboration and Support: GBDMA is collaborating with international partners, including ICIMOD and World Wildlife Fund-Pakistan, to strengthen its disaster management capabilities.

 

Government’s Commitment

 

The government of Gilgit-Baltistan remains committed to supporting GBDMA’s efforts in disaster management and relief operations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced plans to supply 100MW of electricity to GB, highlighting the government’s focus on development and welfare initiatives in the region ².
