The Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, reviewed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency’s (NCCIA) efforts to combat cybercrime and financial fraud. The committee emphasized the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures to protect citizens’ interests and prevent financial scams.
The agency is broadening its investigative scope and strengthening coordination with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to curb the misuse of illegal SIMs.
– Committee members expressed concern over financial crimes and scams targeting the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), highlighting potential vulnerabilities in the system.
– Security Risks: Members also discussed security risks associated with cross-border radio transmissions and the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.
The committee resolved to hold a dedicated briefing on financial crimes in partnership with NCCIA and PTA during an upcoming session.
– Election Amendment Bill: The committee deferred consideration of the Election (Amendment) Bill, 2025, introduced by MNAs Shazia Marri and Syed Naveed Qamar, to allow for further deliberations.
