SPECIAL REPORT. GILGIT.AUG.23
The Provincial Secretary of Communications and Public Works, Sabtain Ahmed, conducted a detailed visit to the flood-affected areas of Tali Das, Gupis, Ghizer, on the directives of the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary. The visit aimed to assess the damage caused by the recent floods and identify the necessary relief and rehabilitation measures.

During the visit, Sabtain Ahmed was accompanied by engineers from the Pakistan Army and officials from the National Highway Authority. He stated that the floodwaters had damaged the road at Tali Das, disrupting connectivity. However, a team of engineers and workers is working tirelessly to construct an alternative route on an emergency basis. It is expected that the road will be opened for traffic within the next 7 to 8 days.
The Provincial Secretary emphasized that the restoration of the original road will be a joint effort between the Pakistan Army, NHA, and the Provincial Department of Public Works. The goal is to minimize the difficulties faced by the local population and ensure the swift restoration of essential services.
The floods have also affected the drinking water supply in the area, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the residents. The authorities are working to restore the water supply and provide relief to those affected ¹ Rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas, with the Pakistan Army and other agencies working together to rescue stranded residents. Over 50 people have been rescued so far, and efforts are being made to shift affected people to safer areas. The situation remains critical, with the risk of further flooding and landslides looming over the region.
