Presence of Large Stockpile of Explosives in the Middle of the City is Administrative Negligence – National Labor Federation

Karachi, Aug 24,: Labor leaders strongly condemned a devastating explosion at a firecracker warehouse in Al-Aman Plaza, opposite Capri Cinema on M.A. Jinnah Road, which resulted in the partial collapse of the building. Khalid Khan, President, and Muhammad Qasim Jamal, General Secretary of the National Labor Federation (NLF) Karachi expressed grief over the loss of precious lives, injuries to several people, and the partial demolition of the building.

NLF officials criticized the administration’s oversight, citing the presence of a large quantity of explosive material in the middle of the city. They referred to a previous incident at the same location, highlighting the authorities’ failure to prevent the recurrence of such an event.

The two-story Al-Aman Plaza houses over 150 offices and shops, including the NLF Karachi office, Tehreek-e-Mehnat, legal and media offices, and medical equipment shops, providing livelihoods to hundreds of people.

Khan and Jamal accused the warehouse owner of operating under the patronage of law enforcement agencies and other agencies. They demanded a ban on the sale and storage of fireworks within city limits, along with the arrest and legal action against the warehouse owner.

NLF leaders expressed sympathy for the families of the victims and pledged their support.
