Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan, Vice Chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS), has emerged as a visionary leader, reshaping the institution into one of Pakistan’s premier centers of medical education, research, and innovation.
A seasoned academician, researcher, and administrator, Dr. Ujjan also serves as Chief Editor and Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, underscoring his influence in academic and editorial domains. His leadership reflects a blend of institutional reforms, groundbreaking research, and student-centered initiatives.
Academic and Research Leadership:
Dr. Ujjan spearheads two major research groups at LUMHS—the Hematological Disorders Group and the International Arsenic Project. As Principal Investigator, he has led government-funded projects on ACE2 gene expression in COVID-19 patients and saliva as a liquid biopsy for early detection of oral cancer.
He is also the co-author of Basic Biostatistics for Clinical Researchers, a widely referenced book that equips young clinicians and researchers with essential tools for evidence-based practice.
Innovation and Student Wellbeing:
Under his leadership, LUMHS has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Computerized Examination Centre to ensure transparency and efficiency in assessments. He also established the Centre for Psycho-Social and Academic Wellbeing, focusing on mental health and academic resilience for both students and faculty.
At the recent Child Health Symposium, Dr. Ujjan advocated for a family-centered model of pediatric care, integrating conventional and complementary therapies to improve child health outcomes.
Global Impact and Vision:
Previously serving as Patron-in-Chief of the DJLUMHS Editorial Board, Dr. Ujjan has strengthened the university’s academic footprint both nationally and internationally.
